Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (mHBOT) in Denver

Mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy is becoming an increasingly popular therapeutic treatment option for a wide range of symptoms and conditions. If you’re interested in HBOT in Denver, our experienced medical technicians and doctors at FRE are here to help.

What is Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (mHBOT)?

Mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a safe and effective method of delivering increased oxygen throughout the body in a pressurized room or chamber. The combination of pressure and oxygen allows the body to begin to heal on its own. mHBOT involves breathing normally in a highly pressurized chamber where the lungs are able to take in much more oxygen than would be possible at normal air pressure. This increases the flow of oxygenated blood throughout the body and helps:

  • Reduce swelling and inflammation
  • Improve blood flow and circulation
  • Promote the natural healing and detoxification of diseased tissues

Our mHBOT services are administered by trained medical professionals and doctors. We use hyperbaric treatment to help athletes quickly recover from soreness or fatigue to increase their sports performance, to help our concussion and brain injury patients recover faster, and to improve overall health and wellness.

How does mHBOT work?

Concentrated oxygen at a pressure of 1.3 ATA causes an increase in oxygen delivery to injured or hypoxic tissues at a level 400% deeper than our normal blood supply can penetrate. Essentially, mHBOT utilizes the properties of liquids and gases under pressure (Henry’s Law), which causes oxygen (a gas) to become dissolved into fluids such as plasma, cerebrospinal fluid, and synovial fluid. This then creates a systemic saturation of oxygen in the brain, nervous system, muscles, joints, tissues, and organs, thus penetrating difficult-to-reach regions in an effort to promote healing.

At FRE, our on-staff medical doctors additionally practice mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy (mHBOT). In this type of mHBOT, we leverage soft-sided chambers as opposed to hard-shell ones for two purposes: (1) to increase the portability of our services and (2) to utilize a safer pressure of below 1.5 ATA. By leveraging mild HBOT, we can provide a highly effective, yet safe healing therapy wherever is convenient for you!

And believe it or not, mHBOT can be used to help treat a variety of conditions.

mHBOT + Brain and Sports Injuries

Much like exterior wounds that won’t heal, your brain can also be incredibly slow to recover from a traumatic injury, such as a concussion. Your joints and soft tissue can also suffer from this same extended healing process. Mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy can streamline the recovery process by increasing oxygen in the bloodstream to promote the body’s innate ability to heal. For some conditions, mHBOT alone can restore the body to ideal function. For other conditions, your hyperbaric oxygen therapy should be applied in conjunction with other treatments to provide the best results.

mHBOT has been proven beneficial for not only athletic performance but also a wide range of diseases. These include stroke, Autism Spectrum Disorder, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, Lyme disease, Parkinson’s disease, and Alzheimer’s disease. When administered by trained doctors and medical professionals, mHBOT also can potentially help individuals recovering from any type of surgery (plastic, reconstructive, etc.) as it can facilitate wound healing.

mHBOT + Autoimmune Diseases

Most illnesses are caused by microbial organisms. Our cells can become toxic due to high levels of environmental pollutants and the preservatives in our foods. When cells become congested with toxins, they don’t allow for sufficient oxygen to enter the cell, and the cell becomes predisposed to the disease.

Mild HBOT increases the strength of the cell and forces oxygen into the cell to aid in the detoxifying process. Our cells love and need oxygen to survive and thrive! Fortunately, bacteria, fungi, microbes, and viruses cannot survive in an oxygen-rich environment.

Here are some of the many ways mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy may promote healing:

  • Decreases inflammation
  • Forces oxygen 400% deeper into bodily tissues
  • Saturates plasma with oxygen and promotes healing of all tissue within the body
  • Increases white blood cell formation
  • Increases cell production and their transfer to the central nervous system
  • Antimicrobial effect
  • Promotes angiogenesis
  • Increases blood flow
  • Upregulation of key antioxidant enzymes and decreases oxidative stress
  • Decreases harmful bacteria/yeast found systemically in the gut
  • Decreases viral load found systemically
  • Increased production of serotonin
  • Promotes overall detoxification of cells
  • And helps rid the body of mercury and other heavy metals
